Hanshi John Nanay, President and Chief Instructor of the World Karate Association, has been teaching professionally since 1966. Mr. Nanay holds the rank of 9th Degree Black-belt awarded on November 11, 2009.

Mr. Nanay is one of the select few international referees worldwide and has
- held an international referee clinic in Katmandu, Nepal, January 2005;
- coached the United States Junior Karate Team to victory in Europe (1985, 1986, 1987, 1990, 1991 & 1992);
- been appointed International Advisor to the Chairman of the United States of America Karate Federation (USAKF);
- been inducted into the Karate Hall of Fame (1988);
- refereed the World Games in London, England (1985);
- refereed the Maccabiah Games (Jewish Olypics) in Tel Aviv (1985);
- served as Assistant to the World Referee Council (1984);
- coached the Illinois Team to victory in the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) competition in Chicago;
- been named “Coach of the Year” of the United States Karate Association (USKA), 1977
